Item Challengess and Barriers to Access the Benefits of AI by Marginalized Sections of the Society: Exacerbation of Existing Societal Inequalitites in the Society(The Lawgical Junction and MJS Publishing House, 2024) Nidhi Singh AroraArtificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force shaping various aspects of society, from healthcare and education to transportation and finance. Its potential to optimize processes, enhance decision-making, and create innovative solutions has garnered significant attention and investment worldwide. However, amidst the enthusiasm surrounding Al's promises, it is crucial to critically examine its impact on marginalized communities. Marginalized communities encompass individuals who face systemic barriers and discrimination based on factors such as race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, disability, and sexual orientation. Historically, these communities have been disproportionately disadvantaged regarding access to resources, opportunities, and power. Al has the potential to either exacerbate existing inequalities or serve as a tool for empowerment and liberation, depending on how it is developed, deployed, and regulated. This paper explores the challenges and barriers faced by marginalized communities in accessing the benefits of Al, and how these issues exacerbate existing societal inequalities. Drawing from existing literature, this paper identifies key factors contributing to disparities in Al access and proposes strategies to mitigate these challenges. By addressing these barriers, policymakers, technologists, and advocates can work towards a more inclusive and equitable Al.
