Metal Oxide Nanoparticles in Environmental and Industrial Microbiology
(Zenodo, 2024) Sabeeha Jabeen, Ekhlakh Veg, Shashi Bala, Tahmeena Khan
Metal oxide-based nanoparticles (NPs) have numerous applications in science and technology. This paper focuses on applications of NPs Environmental and Industrial Microbiology. Metal oxide-based NPs find applications in wastewater remediation, gas sensing, and heavy metal eradication because of their non-toxic behavior, large surface area, bandgap, and tremendous catalytic performance. Attainment of selective nanostructures of metal oxide nanoparticles is possible through the green synthetic methodology without generating any toxic by-products. These properties make them effective in applications ranging from pollution control and bioremediation to industrial processes like biofuel production and antimicrobial surface creation. However, the potential toxicity of these NPs and their long-term environmental impact pose significant challenges. This Paper highlights the promise of metal oxide NPs in advancing microbiology while underscoring the need for comprehensive risk assessments to ensure their safe application.
