    Impact of Covid-19 on Behavioral Pattern of Online Shoppers in India

    The pandemic of COVID-19 has changed consumer behaviour across the world such as shopping online. Due to the lockdowns caused by the pandemic, it accelerated the adoption of e-commerce in India based on social distancing norms. This study explores the impact of COVID-19 on the behaviour of online shoppers in India. This study specifically aims at determining the change in the online buying behaviour. The study uses a mixed-method approach combining quantitative data from surveys and e-commerce platforms and qualitative data from interviews with consumers, and industry experts. As many people are now opting for online shopping regarding both essential and non-essential items, they also wish to make contactless payments and ensure safety and hygiene. Also discussed in the study were problems faced by consumers such as delayed delivery and availability of products and recommendations were provided for e-commerce platforms to enhance customer satisfaction and retention.

    Social Vulnerabilities and Community Responses in India: Extreme Weather and COVID-19 Pandemic

    The health of populations is inseparably linked with weather and climate and disease epidemiology. Extreme weather events like heat waves, storms, droughts, and dangerous flooding bring destruction in their wake. Damage to infrastructure and other built environments is easily visible after an extreme weather event. Extreme weather events bring physical injury and death, creating mental health consequences in their wake. A new realization has captured the imagination of the world, that of extreme weather events along with disease pandemics, like the COVID-19 crisis. Weather extremes and disease pandemics, together, present challenging problems particularly for governments and communities alike. Poor and vulnerable populations are the most affected. The capacity of a community to plan and prepare for extreme weather and pandemics is a new and important determinant of health consequences and their severity. Existing public health and safety systems are significant factors in responding to such combined emergencies. Other factors include the age, gender, education, medical conditions, and socioeconomic status of the populations affected. Such double events affect most, if not all, elements of life, including agriculture yields and the long-term food security of nations. Therefore, governments, community institutions, nongovernmental organizations, international agencies, and individual citizens must consider preparation for all such combined extreme events a priority. This chapter presents an overview of mental health consequences of the combined effects of a pandemic (COVID-19) and extreme weather events—heat waves, droughts, floods, rains, and their unpredictable intermittency—when they happen together. Mental health following such combined events is a challenge. Government, community, and agencies extant, rush to help, to deal effectively with the present and future combined events and their known and potential consequences. Best practices in response to this combined, continuing, extreme weather events with a pandemic are also considered.

    The Outbreak of COVID-19 Coronavirus and Associated Facts and Factors

    COVID-19 is a global pandemic resulting in devastating impacts that spread through a virus and are even more contagious than influenza, as evident from the frequent reporting of cluster outbreaks. Although the key problem is that the symptoms are often similar to other common illnesses, such outbreaks can be controlled if individuals with initial symptoms are tested, and further contact tracing is done. The concept presented here discusses the order in which symptoms appear to differentiate it from other respiratory disorders, however, this crucial information is mostly missing. To determine the most likely order of detectable symptoms in COVID-19 patients, we apply a Markov Process to a graded partially ordered set based on clinical observations of COVID-19 cases. A comparison was made between the evolution of these symptoms in COVID-19 and influenza, SARS, and MERS to see if they were present differently. Influenza, according to our hypothesis, begins with a cough, whereas COVID-19 and other coronavirus infections begin with a fever. COVID-19, on the other hand, varies from SARS and MERS in terms of the order of gastrointestinal symptoms. As facilities begin to reopen following the 2020 spring outbreak, our findings support the idea that fever should be used to screen for admission and that appropriate clinical practice should include noting the order of symptoms occurrence in COVID-19 along with other diseases. If this type of systemic clinical approach had been routine, the move from a local to a worldwide pandemic might not have happened.

    Vaccination Hesitancy and Adaptation with Particular Emphasis on Women

    The novel beta-coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) emerged in 2019 in Wuhan from bats and later caused inter-human transmission. India is one of the worst- hit countries, where two million casualties have taken place during the second wave of the pandemic. The year 2021 witnessed the more deadly form of the virus. At the same time, there was remarkable progress in vaccine development resulting in the approval of a few vaccines by the governments. The process of COVID-19 vaccination has kickstarted in many countries. The general attitude towards acceptance of the vaccine has been reported in countries like the USA and Jordan. Very few studies have reported the understanding and hesitation regarding the vaccination among the Indian population, and the present study is an attempt to highlight the general mindset, acceptance, misconceptions and awareness regarding the COVID-19 vaccination from the Indian perspective. Being one of the worst-hit countries in terms of COVID-19, it is important to identify the barriers holding the Indian population back from getting vaccinated. This study was done as a questionnaire survey aimed at knowing the general apprehension, and thoughts of the public regarding the vaccination with 308 respondents, precisely of Indian origin. 58.8% (n=181) respondents were non- vaccinated. 45.2% (n=95) respondents reported that their respective employers made vaccination compulsory. 51.5% (n=120) felt that the vaccine is 60-80% safe. The results may be used by the public health authorities to identify the priority group and the barriers holding people back from vaccination.
