Item Nutraceuticals and Preventive Health: Rethinking Wellness for the 21st Century(Book Rivers, 2026) Ambareen Fatima AhmedThe 21st century has witnessed an unprecedented global surge in chronic non-communicable diseases. This epidemiological shift necessitates a transition from reactive clinical treatment to proactive preventive healthcare models. This chapter examines the role of nutraceuticals, functional foods, and dietary supplements in disease prevention, healthy ageing, and holistic wellness. Drawing upon recent interdisciplinary literature, the text explores how specific bioactive compounds modulate physiological mechanisms to mitigate cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurodegenerative risks. The chapter contextualises these nutritional interventions within public health promotion, emphasising the crucial need for improved nutrition literacy and the integration of preventive strategies into community care frameworks. Ethical complexities, including global regulatory gaps, commercial misinformation, and socioeconomic accessibility, undergo key analysis points. Finally, the chapter highlights emerging patterns, particularly artificial intelligence- driven personalised nutrition and precision wellness.Item Bioactive Food Compounds Against Liver Cancer(Springer, Cham, 2026) Aditya Singh, Shubhrat Maheshwari, Amita Verma, Vaseem A. Ansari, Bhupendra G. PrajapatiLiver cancer arises from the dysregulated proliferation of hepatic cells and is driven by a multitude of contributing factors, as revealed through advanced cellular biology and comprehensive genomic investigations. Tumor initiation and progression in hepatic tissues are frequently attributed to somatic mutations, which may result in similar phenotypic manifestations across different liver cancer subtypes. Over recent decades, a deeper understanding of the genetic and molecular aberrations involved in hepatocarcinogenesis has emerged. This evolving insight holds promise for the development of innovative therapeutic agents capable of modulating multiple molecular targets implicated in liver cancer progression. This chapter explores the pathophysiological mechanisms underpinning liver cancer, outlines traditional treatment modalities, and highlights the therapeutic potential of bioactive phytochemicals. These naturally occurring compounds, present in everyday dietary sources, represent a valuable adjunct or alternative to existing liver cancer therapies, potentially improving outcomes through multi-target engagement and minimal toxicity.Item Synergism in Nutraceutical Formulations(Springer nature, 2025) Mohd Aftab Siddiqui; Mrunalini Gobinath, Sagarika Mukherjee, Rania I. M. Almoselhy, Afreen Usmani, Rajakumari Rajendran, Sabu Thomas, and Manisha BihanNutraceuticals are bioactive compounds or functional foods consumed to sustain nutrition and support disease prevention. Derived from nutrition and pharmaceuticals, the concept merges food science with therapeutic potential. Synergism in nutraceutical formulations arises when two or more bioactive agents interact to produce enhanced pharmacological or physiological outcomes that surpass the sum of their individual effects. This principle addresses key challenges of monotherapy: poor bioavailability, limited target specificity, and rapid metabolic degradation by enabling multicomponent, mechanistically complementary formulations. Recent innovations such as nano-encapsulation and codelivery systems further enhance absorption, stability, and efficacy of synergistic blends. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of molecular and formulation-based synergism in nutraceuticals, focusing on mechanistic interactions, formulation challenges, and future directions toward supernutraceuticals that integrate advanced bioengineering and traditional dietary wisdom.
