Biological Control Agents in Organic Farming Systems: Current Status, Ecological Engineering, and Future Perspectives
(Learning Media Publication, Meerut, 2026) Salman Ahmad, Fazil Hasan
The increasing demand for residue-free food, coupled with the adverse environmental impacts of synthetic pesticides, has accelerated the global transition toward organic farming systems. Biological control has emerged as a cornerstone of organic agriculture by utilizing living organisms and their products to suppress insect pests, plant pathogens, and weeds while maintaining ecological balance. This chapter provides a comprehensive synthesis of the principles, evolution, and current status of biological control in organic farming, with particular emphasis on predators, parasitoids, entomopathogenic microorganisms, and entomopathogenic nematodes. Recent advances in microbial biopesticides, including Bacillus thuringiensis, Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae, Lecanicillium lecanii, insect-specific viruses, and beneficial nematodes, have substantially expanded the scope of environmentally benign pest management. The chapter further highlights conservation biological control through ecological engineering practices such as flowering strips, banker plants, habitat diversification, cover crops, and reduced pesticide use, which enhance natural enemy abundance and ecosystem resilience. Commercialization, quality assurance, and successful implementation of biological control programs are discussed with reference to notable case studies from India and other countries. The challenges associated with environmental variability, host specificity, mass production, formulation stability, regulatory constraints, and farmer adoption are critically examined. Emerging technologies including molecular biology, microbiome engineering, artificial intelligence, precision agriculture, remote sensing, and RNA interference are reshaping the future of biological control and improving its integration into sustainable crop production systems.

Fungal-Based Biostimulants and Growth Regulators for Plant Growth and Disease Resistance
(Apple Academic Press, 2027) Deepak Kumar, Sanjay K. Singh, Vishnu D. Rajput, Deepti Srivastava, Md. Shamim, Raja Husain, Shachi Agrawal
This chapter reviews the role of fungal-based biostimulants and growth regulators in promoting sustainable agriculture. It discusses the importance of fungi in enhancing nutrient uptake, improving stress tolerance, stimulating plant growth, and inducing disease resistance through bioactive compounds, volatile organic compounds, and secondary metabolites. Various fungal groups such as mycorrhizae, Trichoderma, Aspergillus, Chaetomium, Penicillium, endophytic fungi, and fungal elicitors are discussed with respect to their mechanisms, formulations, regulatory aspects, and applications for improving crop productivity and environmental sustainability.

Empowering Women in Agri-Startups for Sustainable Food Security
(Springer Nature, 2024) Ruqaiya Bano , Mariya Hasnat
The contribution of women to the advancement of agriculture has grown significantly. Women play a crucial role in guaranteeing food security and conserving local agro-biodiversity. Agriculture sector employs 80% of all economically active women; they comprise 33% of the agricultural labor force and 48% of self employed farmers. Despite playing a significant role in various aspects of agriculture and food production, yet their contributions are often undervalued and underrepre sented. As women are the primary participants in all stages of agricultural produc tion, including pre-harvest, post-harvest processing, packaging, and marketing, it is crucial to implement gender-specific interventions to enhance agricultural productivity. Empowering women in agri-startups not only promotes gender equality but also has the potential to significantly enhance food security. This paper explores the crucial role of women in agri-startups for achieving sustainable food security, challenges faced by women in agri-startups, the benefits of their empowerment, and strategies for fostering their leadership in this sector. By addressing these issues, we can create a more inclusive and sustainable agricultural landscape, ultimately leading to improved food security for communities worldwide.

Application of Digital Technologies & Remote Sensing in Precision Agriculture for Sustainable Crop Production
    (Springer Nature, 2024) Mohammad Usama
Abstract Soil is an abiotic component of environment which provides habitat for soil microflora and fauna which is very essential for good health. Anthropogenic activities can alter soil and affect health of soil. These activities include excess use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, irrigation, faulty agricultural practices, modern machinery, shifting cultivation etc. Alternative exists in the form of precision agri-culture, as it will help in practicing agriculture in a way that will contribute towards sustainable rural development. The challenge for rural India is to feed more people from shrinking agricultural land and without having much negative consequence on our environment. This may be possible through precision agriculture as we have the correct information collected through satellite as well as aerial imagery about weather conditions and the needs of our agricultural land and also about crops in terms of requirement of fertilizers, pesticides, irrigation facility etc. By adopting precision agriculture, we would be able to rejuvenate and maintain good soil health. So, precision agriculture can be called the future of sustainable agriculture in India and around world, as this only has the potential to feed the millions of people with least negative consequence on Human life and Environment.
