Abstract

This study investigates the impact of professional ethics on the mental health outcomes of university teachers, focusing on how ethical principles and institutional ethical climates affect psychological well-being. With rising concerns over stress, burnout, and anxiety among academic staff, the researcher examines how ethical practices can either mitigate or worsen mental health challenges. The study develops a conceptual framework linking professional ethics to improved faculty mental health and explores ethical stressors and institutional climates as protective or risk factors. As mental health issues among university teachers increase, factors like heavy workloads, administrative pressures, and lack of support contribute to stress and burnout. This study highlights the significance of professional ethics, including integrity, fairness, and respect, in influencing mental health outcomes. The research identifies common ethical stressors such as value conflicts, favoritism, and insufficient institutional support, and finds that ethical dissonance leads to emotional distress and burnout. This study adopts a qualitative and conceptual research design aimed at constructing a theoretical framework that explains the relationship between professional ethics and mental health outcomes among university teachers. Rather than collecting primary empirical data, the study relies on an extensive review and thematic synthesis of relevant literature from scholarly journals, institutional reports, policy documents, and books. The analysis revealed that adherence to professional ethical principles such as integrity, fairness, respect, and accountability has a significant positive impact on the psychological well-being of university faculty. The findings underscore the importance of fostering a clear and supportive ethical climate in universities to protect and promote the mental health of teachers. By prioritizing ethical practices and providing better support systems, universities can improve both faculty morale and overall academic effectiveness.
