| dc.description.abstract | Agriculture, rural development, and food security constitute the foundational pillars of India's socioeconomic structure, particularly in a nation where a significant proportion of the population depends on agriculture for livelihood. This paper critically examines the transformative journey of Indian agriculture, beginning with the Green Revolution, which significantly enhanced food grain production but also introduced regional disparities and environmental degradation. The study evaluates key rural development initiatives such as the Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP), the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), emphasizing their role in poverty alleviation, rural infrastructure development, and employment generation. It also investigates persistent challenges such as implementation bottlenecks, policy fragmentation, and social inequities. Furthermore, the paper analyzes India's food security landscape through the lens of availability, accessibility, and nutritional adequacy. Despite institutional frameworks like the Public Distribution System (PDS) and the National Food Security Act (NFSA), issues such as malnutrition, climate vulnerabilities, and post-harvest losses remain unresolved. The study concludes by advocating for a holistic, inclusive, and sustainable development approach that integrates climate-resilient agriculture, nutrition-sensitive food policies, and participatory rural governance. Through this interdisciplinary analysis, the paper underscores the need for synergistic policies that align agricultural growth with rural empowerment and national food and nutritional security goals. | |
