Abstract

This paper explores the impact of digital parenting on children’s social skills and its relationships with peers in the school environment. With the increasing usage of digital media in everyday life, it has become necessary for parents to control and supervise their children’s use of the internet. The paper defines the concept of digital parenting; reviews existing literature including the parenting styles developed by Baumrind. It analyses the effect of the digital media on a child’s social interaction with their peers and its potential advantages and disadvantages. The paper also highlights the impact of children’s digital media activities on their interpersonal relations. The paper accomplishes some practical recommendations for parents to improve digital parenting practices to support the healthy social development of children.
