Abstract
Carbon nanomaterial (CNM) is a revolutionary nanomaterial that possesses unique physical and chemical properties due to its lightweight nature and honeycomb structure. Its exceptional characteristics have attracted significant interest from various disciplines, including biological sciences, energy, and environmental research. However, despite its promising applications, carbon-based nanoparticles also exhibit certain biologically undesirable effects that require further investigation. This chapter explores recent advancements in the synthesis of carbon-based composites, analyzing their structural and functional properties and highlighting their advantages across diverse applications. Key aspects such as unit cell edges, bond formation, electronic structure, and stacking sequence are emphasized to provide a deeper understanding of carbon nanomaterial behavior. Additionally, the impact of these properties on carbon’s thermal, electrical, mechanical, and chemical characteristics is examined. Following an overview of carbon’s fundamental composition and production techniques, the discussion extends to surface modification challenges and future research directions. Ultimately, this chapter aims to present cutting-edge synthesis techniques and emerging applications of CNM, offering valuable insights into its potential and limitations.
