In this chapter, an analysis will be conducted regarding women in politics. The chapter focuses on identifying some of the social, cultural, and other barriers to gender equality in terms of women's representation in politics around the world. Despite the positive developments in global affairs related to the role played by women in different processes, there is still much work to be done to ensure gender equality in politics. Women continue to face difficulties in gaining access to certain positions and in taking active part in political decision- making. The chapter provides insight into the role of female political leaders and the importance of women's participation in politics. The role of female political leaders will be analysed in relation to gendered governance and the contribution they can make to different policy priorities, particularly those associated with healthcare and social welfare. At the same time, the chapter considers some of the most important examples of successful women leaders who managed to break through the barriers in the field. Ultimately, it affirms that empowering women in politics is essential for achieving sustainable development, social justice, and equitable growth, aligning with the broader themes of gender and development discussed in this volume.en-USWomenPolitical LeadershipGender EqualityGovernanceRedefining InequalitiesWomen in Political Leadership: Representation, Challenges and the Impact of Female Leaders in the Era of GlobalisationBook chapter
